As dairy producers, our Dairy Leadership Program participants are experts in the on farm practices and cow care that lead to the production of high-quality, nutritious milk. However, their recent trip to OSU's Food Innovation Center (FIC) offered a unique perspective on the entrepreneurial and product development side of milk's journey once it leaves the farm. There, they saw firsthand how dairy products move through various stages of research and development—from concept and testing to market. The leadership group then hit the research lab to sample several developing ice cream and yogurt products.
The group then made their way to the Oregon Dairy Council office in Tigard to meet with the ODC team. During the visit, the Dairy Leadership group learned about the Council's impactful work in nutrition education, school programs, and consumer outreach.
Thank you to the Food Innovation Center and Oregon Dairy Council teams for being such wonderful hosts!
